Chez Bernard Beauty Academy Cosmetology Course Outline
The goals and objectives of Chez Bernard Beauty Academy are to teach students all the theoretical and practical aspects of the beauty culture field. The course curriculum is maintained and regulated by the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick (CANB) is 1600 hours or 43 weeks and after successful completion of the course, graduates will be licensed as hairstylists under the rules and regulations of the CANB.
The following is a list of the theoretical and practical skills taught at Chez Bernard Beauty Academy:
Professional Ethics
Bacteriology and Sterilization
Decontamination and Infection Control
Properties of the hair and Scalp
Draping, shampoos and Rinses
Hair Cutting for men and women – Advanced Techniques
It is not uncommon for the Academy to provide technicians from the industry to give first hand instruction of their particular products, and/or use several audio visual videos and instruction to show students the latest and most update style and fashion currently available.
Instructor Student Ratio
Under the regulations of Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick, One Instructor holding an Instructors license under the CANB must be on the Premises for 18 or fewer students in the classroom. For any additional students up to 36 a second licensed instructor must be present, and finally for any additional students up to a school maximum of 48 Students three licensed instructors are required to be present at the school.
Terms and Conditions of Registration
Any Student who attends Chez Bernard Beauty Academy may be 17 years of age at the commencement of the course provided they will be 18 years of age before the 43 weeks of school is complete.
Perquisites for students attending Chez Bernard Beauty Academy are having grade 12 education and/or proof of the equivalent. Any students over 21 years of age may apply for mature student status where a grade 10 education is the maximum requirement, as per the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick.
Student Progress and Evaluation
The progressiveness, professionalism, and overall attitude of the students are reviewed and evaluated on a regular basis. Students are not only graded on their theoretical and practical skills, but also on the manner in which they conduct themselves. This includes maintaining a regular attendance, being punctual and attentive in class, following the dress code as prescribed by the academy, and maintaining a positive attitude while at school.
Upon completion of the course students are rewarded for outstanding achievement in theoretical and practical fields. Achievement awards are presented to the three students with the highest overall average in the theoretical portion of the course and the top three students in Practical portion of the course. Finally, the student with the highest average in both practical and theoretical as well as class mark shall receive the Chez Bernard Beauty Academy Student of the Year Award.
All students completing the course shall receive a Certified and Sealed Diploma of Graduation from the Academy.
The administration of Chez Bernard Beauty Academy will do their best to help each student find employment but unfortunately cannot guarantee employment to all students.
Tuition Payment Policy
Tuition for students at Chez Bernard Beauty Academy’s cosmetology program is $7,500.00 (Canadian funds) for the full year (43 weeks/1600 hrs.). Upon Acceptance a confirmation fee of $300.00 shall be paid and will be deducted from your total tuition cost, this fee is non refundable. There is also a Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick licensing fee of $258.00. The Provincial government requires all students to pay a Protection Fee of 1% of the total tuition, or $75.00. Finally, the students are required to purchase a “Student Kit” which includes all necessary text, literature and materials to complete the prescribed curriculum. The Student kit is valued at $1,150.00. This brings the total student investment to $8,983.00. White uniforms and shoes are required and are an additional personal cost to the students not included in the tuition.

Confirmation fee $300.00 Due within 60 days of acceptance (this fee is non-refundable)
First payment includes: $3,750.00 (First Half of the tuition) $ 258.00 (CANB Licensing Fee) $ 75.00 (NB Provincial Protection Fee) $ 1,150.00 (Student books and kit) $ 5,233.00 due by the 15th September, 2008
Second Payment Includes $ 3,750.00 (Second Half of the Tuition) - 300.00 (Confirmation Fee) _________ $ 3,450.00 due by the 28th February, 2009
